As one of the first Italian cooperative banks, Banca Popolare di Sondrio (BPS) has been serving the areas in which it operates since 1871. Over the years, BPS has extended its business operations nationwide, maintaining strong ties with its geographical area of origin and its traditions, while fostering the Community’s sustainable economic development through careful, tailored support for small entrepreneurs, ordinary citizens, as well as medium and large-sized enterprises. In December 2021 Banca Popolare di Sondrio’s Extraordinary Shareholders Meeting approved the transformation into a joint-stock company, a historic step that has not changed its established business model as a “local bank”.
Because of its history and driven by the strong bond with the territory and communities, Banca Popolare di Sondrio firmly believes the financial sector is a crucial one in order to lead the economy towards a sustainable development. As outlined in the 2022-2025 Industrial Plan, BPS is committed in adopting a set of sustainability strategies not only aimed at protecting the environment and fighting against climate change, but also capable of considering, as a priority, the wellbeing of people and communities.
In 2004 BPS joined the United Nations Global Compact and, since 2018, it also joined Global Compact Network Italia as a founding member alongside with supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.
