Butch Bacani is the Programme Leader of the UNEP FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) Initiative, the largest collaboration between the UN and the insurance industry. Endorsed by the UN Secretary-General, the PSI is a global framework and initiative to address environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities. Butch led the six-year global process to develop the PSI, which was launched at the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development. From 2006 to 2010, he led UNEP FI’s insurance and investment programmes, including its activities with the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment Initiative. Butch has written and contributed to pioneering studies, including a report on global sustainability issues for insurers, the first global sustainability survey of the insurance industry, a global insurance industry statement on climate change, and a legal roadmap for fiduciaries to drive responsible investment. Previously, Butch was based in Asia as the Head of Reinsurance of the Pioneer Group, where he spent over a decade working with leading insurers and reinsurers worldwide.
