On 8 April 2020, the European Commission published the stakeholder consultation on the Renewed Sustainable Finance Strategy, which will be open for feedback for 14 weeks until 15 July 2020.
The consultation sets an ambitious tone and touches on cross-cutting policy areas relevant to the investment, banking and insurance industries. It will inform the development of the EU renewed strategy to be adopted before the end of the year.
The European renewed strategy will contribute as an integral part of the European Green Deal and will respond to the objectives of the European Green Deal Investment Plan, in particular to create an enabling framework for private investors and the public sector to facilitate sustainable finance. It will build on previous initiatives and reports, such as the Commission’s 2018 Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth.
The importance of a renewed sustainable finance strategy is highlighted in particular through the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, which underscores some of the subtle links and risks associated with human activity, climate change, and biodiversity loss, as well as the subsequently critical need to strengthen the sustainability and resilience of our societies and economies.
Citizens, public authorities, Member States and financial institutions from all continents are invited to respond.
